New Moon Movie Director Chris Weitz Replaces Catherine Hardwicke

Chris Weitz is replacing Catherine Hardwicke - Twilight 2 - New Moon MovieAs you probably know already Director Catherine Hardwicke Chris Weitz at the helm of Twilight 2, aka New Moon. Such a movie by Summit Entertainment may surprise the fans knowing that the first movie of the Twilight saga was a real success. Let's try to understand why Director Catherine Hardwicke was kicked out of the sequel to Twilight!

Hardwicke cited time restrictions as the reason behind her leaving the project, saying:

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon. Directing Twilight has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel—it is a great story."
Catherine Hardwicke

That's nice talking but I bet there is more behind her departure.Catherine Hardwicke was really committed to the movie adaptation of Twilight. So I can but doubt that she was willing to hand over the movie New Moon from her own alone...

Before being replaced she once stated the following;

The extraordinary world that Stephenie has created has millions of fans, and it will be my duty to protect on their behalf the characters, themes and story they love. This is not a task to be taken lightly, and I will put every effort into realizing a beautiful film to stand alongside a beautiful book.
Catherine Hardwicke

I think Hardwicke was too attached to her job, and somehow was getting more Catholic than the Pope, meaning that she giving too much weight to the book even if Stephenie Meyer herself would allow some change in the sequel to Twilight. Catherine Hardwicke may not have shared the vision of the production company for New Moon: quite sure that Summit Entertainment refocus the plot of the movie New Moon on the romantic vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson), or at least to give more time on screen.

Also she does not have real experience in fantasy movie which is really important for New Moon), and not sure she could manage a real blockbuster budget (following the success of Twilight, Summit Entertainment is indeed more than eager to put a huge amount of cash on the table). That's why they chose Chris Weitz in particular to direct New Moon: he's got experience and does have a relevant experience in fantasy with the Golden Compass.

But trading Catherine Hardwicke for Chris Weitz is a bold move that may backlash. Some fans may react negatively to the change out of loyalty. But what's more crucial is that, with Hardwicke leaving, it's maybe a real understanding of what teens and Twilight fans want that is leaving too... Sure fantasy is important but love is the real core of the Twilight saga.

But I'm confident that Director Chris Weitz will do his best and strive for delivering a New Moon movie that will both uplift the sequel to the status of real fantasy movie with marvelous special effects that were lacking in the first opus, and also respect the legacy of Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight movie, which was centered on characters and love. Chris Weitz knows people are expecting a lot from him:

"I am honored to have been entrusted with shepherding New Moon from the page to the screen."
Chris Weitz, Director of New Moon

How do you feel about this director change? Do you think that Chris Weitz has the skills to successfully replace Catherine Hardwicke at the helm of the New Moon movie?

Hardwicke was just lucky with Twilight: just that the cast was good and that fans wanted to see the movie adaptation of Stepehenie's Meyer book.

But she's lacking a real Twilight vision! so, better she does not work on the movie New Moon

Chris Weitz: you'd better give us a great New moon!!

When can we expect the movie trailer of New Moon?

I think Hardwicke did a good job. Given she had no previous experience, she could be considered talented and therefor she could be rewarded with a second chance. In my humble opinion, Chris Weitz did not do a good job with The Golden Compass and I think it is safe to say that Hardwicke would be the best bet for this movie.

I truly hope Weitz does a better job with this movie than with The Golden Compass, but I fear Hardwicke would've done better. Our loss.

One thing that I hate about series of movies is that they always want to change the main characters. This always makes the movies less appealing because the two main characters have already made a bond in the publics eyes and if you change it now will I would have to say make the movie stink. I have read all of the books and would have to say that if the main characters change then I more than likely would not go and see the movie at all. I would have to say at least with the Harry Potter series they at least kept the same people on board during all of their movies and that makes you want to see them again and again.

I honestly DON'T think that Hardwicke did a great job putting Edward & Bella's LOVE on screen. I was very disappointed, so much to say that if I HAD NOT read all the books before seeing this movie, I would have had to say it stunk! This movie was made for the readers, the majority of my friends who went with me had not read any of the books and were completely lost halfway through. They were not impressed. I hope to see Weitz do a better job at this.

As far as losing fans to the sequel because of director change...I completely disagree. The only thing that might keep people from any twilight series movie is too many changes in characters. I personally can't stand when characters change, it's confusing and annoying.

Much luck to you Weitz!!!

NO WAY!! i love catherine hardwicke i saw the golden compass and i reely didnt ike it that much!! i think catherine hardwike is a MUCH better director than chris weitz! one of her main movies was THIRTEEN a movie about TEENAGERS!!!however, chris weitz' main movie was THE GOLDEN COMPASS a SUPER fantasy. yeah twilight fantasy-ish, but its more about love and teenagers. so chris weitz better do well or thers gonna be a BUNCH of people that would want to bite him!!

i personally think that watching twilight was a little depressing because they left out all the good parts like the blood typing chapter they didn't show any part of that if i had a chance to talk to Chris Weitz i would beg him to put every single detail in new moon because if there was just one flaw the movie would be good but not as good as it should be. I think Catherine Hardwicke did ok on twilight but she didnt really show the emotion between Edward and bella it was like they were just buddies. A lot of people think that because Chris Weitz is a guy he can't direct new moon i think if he was a twilight fan he would know exactly how to make new moon he could problebly connect with it like any good director but if he was just doing the movie because he got to be the director then it is going to be more depressing to watch new moon. fans have been making trailers for twilight and they're better than than the real trailers i think it would be awesome if they let a bunch of fans direct a movie one day but until that day we are stuck watching movies that are nothing like their books. i hope that everyone that's a director reads this comment because i think my fan thing is a good idea. You can laugh if you want to but every twilight fan in the world knows that the movie would be better if you just let us make another version of the movie and if you do consider this idea make it a different version of twilight because that movie pretty much sucked. i am just a 12 yaer old girl with thoughts but i know one thought can change everything so plz consider my thought. good luck Weitz hope you do better than Hardwicke.

i hope new moon is better too but the movie was great

Thank God!! "IN MY OPINION" the first Twilight was a "little" sucky. It's just that like Edward and Bella seemed like they don't know how to talk. The characters in Twilight weren't so opened up. It's like some kind of depressed movie... a little. I would give it a 2 **.BTW I am "Twilight Fan"

I am a huge fan of the Twilight novels, but I thought the movie was just "OK". I don't think it was able to convey the true connection between Edward and Bella. I have heard several people who hadn't read the book say they were confused by the movie and just thought it was silly. I know I'll never enjoy the movies as much as the books, which is always the case. I just hope they don't change any of the actors--it is too hard to see someone new in your character's role when you have already gotten used to an actor. I absolutely think Taylor Lautner should be Jacob--lots of girls will be hugely disappointed if he isn't--hs is too perfect to let get away!

I am a big fan of the Twilight series novels, however, I was NOT a fan of the movie. To say I was dissappointed is an understatement. It was the worst novel turned big screen I have ever seen! It was hokie and cheesie, and it felt like a low-budget film. One of many issues I had with the movie was seeing Stephanie Meyers in one of the scenes. That absolutely killed it for me! The movie is not an Alfred Hitchcock film! The book is so extraordinary, and the movie isn't even a crumb of that extraordinary. Let me say, it isn't the actors it was the director! The movie was NOT true to the book. The book did NOT come to life on screen as the Harry Potter movies had. The first thing I said after watching Twilight was that I hope they change directors. She did not have the vision or talent, and I am grateful she is gone. Please let there be less music and more dialog in New Moon. So that the audience can capture, as the readers did, the heart wrenching passion and emotion that the main characters hold for eachother.

Anonymous said...

I really wanted to like the movie because I, along with my 15 year old daughter, have read all of the books. This movie was one of the first times I actually sat in the movie theater and thought, "Wow, she could have delivered that line with a lot more emotion." To me, Bella had some spunk in the books. There were just several places where I thought that the director could have and should have pulled more out of the actors (especially Kristen--she's good, but Bella had almost no emotions in the whole movie--except for desperation.) I think they both did exactly what was expected of them by the director. I'm really looking forward to Bella coming out of her stupor in New Moon...via Chris Weitz.

Thank you to Catherine Hardwicke for her dedication to conveying novels to screen in a tasteful and enchanting way, we loved it.
We hope Chris Weitz will keep the focus on the characters (good choice of casting as in first film) and more importantly the underlying love story without changing it with too many special effects - "less is more".
Looking forward to the end results and good luck to Chris Weitz and all the crew with your work.
(Belinda, Leah, Neil & Lenny)

We agree with "Edwardbellafan" about not changing the characters throughout the series. It DOES definitely lose appeal - it's not only disappointing but doesn't feel like the same film anymore even though the theme is meant to be the same.
So to the producers and director and casting crew: please bear this in mind for each film as it's important to many viewers.

I think that it's a risky but good idea to change hands now. (early) I think that Hardwicke prommised more to the fans then she could deliver. I think that as a director she should strive for better in her work. Who knows how good of a job this next guy will do better!

Anonymous said...

Hardwicke made a bad job. She coudn`t give the character a soul. Maybe she don`t understand the story?

Anonymous said...

I hope that in New Moon Chris Weitz can portray the love of Edward and Bella better. In Twilight, I feel like the movie gave brief glimpses of it, and in the book that's the main focus. I was disapointed that they didn't portray it the way it was read in the book, the passion, obsession, and unbreakable bond that they have. Also PLEASE try not to leave out or change a lot of details. The Twilight series fans LOVE this material...they don't care if the movie is 3 hours long! It's better to include more than cut it out...the fans know. It's also weird when they change parts of the story line...it's so much better when it stays true to the book. And it would be horrible if they replaced any of the main characters...they would lose a lot of fans because like the previous post mentioned, they are already connected to the cast on a deep level. I think that Chris will do a great job, I just hope he keeps the interest of the fans and the true story in mind as he directs!!

Anonymous said...

I honestly think the change of director was much needed, the love connection between Bella and Edward was not there in the first movie, and for the most part the movie did not seek my expectations. I hope Weitz doesn't disappoint in New Moon!

I have to say that I was really disappointed when I went to see Twilight. I am almost done with the series and Really love these books.
I was talking to my wife and I said" I sure hope they get a different director". Now I know that they have and Im excited to see what He can do with New Moon

I hope Weitz can move the movie from what at times felt like a Power Rangers film, to a love story as in Titanic. There is such a broad age rang that are enjoying the Twilight Series. Everyone can remember the first love 10 to 100. I could be done better then the first movie. good luck.

Ms. Hardwicke did a wonderful job with Twilight. From the actors chosen, to the scenery, to the clothing chosen for the characters. All perfect.

I have seen the trailer for "New Moon" and it seems this is going to change. What girl, in total anguish about losing the love of her life, takes the time to get her hair done in the latest style. Thats where Hollywood takes over...need I say more.

Please no Madonna - even on the soundtrack.

Thanks for the series! Absolutely adore it.

IMHO about the Chris Weitz's Golden Compass --The story didn't much help, that which the Church(es)lobbying against most of the polemic, interesting things in Golden Compass's plot -- with their removal, the movie was not only PG-13, it was bland as warm water.

The Golden Compass sucked.

Fantasy's cute, but relationships are the key of what made Twilight tick and hooked in the fans. If Hardwicke did become more royalist than the king, they (producers and co.)ought to have looked for someone who could do the magic AND keep the interpersonal interactions as the rightful main attraction.

I'm excited about there being sequels, but the choice of director is not reassuring me any. Let's wait and see.

I love the Twilight series, but I felt that the movie was horrible. Bella's and Edward's love was poorly interpreted on screen. The way they fell in love on screen was completely destroyed by trying to squeeze a 500 page book into an hour and a half. Hardwicke did not show their love blossem and I was so dissapointed. I think the reason why the movie did so well in theatres was because it had a huge book following. People who love the movie are die hard Twilight fans and will continue to love anything that 'Twilight' is attched to. I think it was a great decision to let Hardwicke go because she would have butchered the next 3 books.

Good Luck to chris Weitz.

I've read all the books and love them so much, and during the movie Twilight, I was laughing! It was pretty horrendous.
I was expecting some Harry Potter proportioned movie, and all i got was a nonsensical one.

Soooo... I hope the new director can do better as my friends and I really would appreciate it!
(and i think they are bad actors as well, but maybe the new director can help them with that as well)

I think bring in a new director was the best thing Summit could do. I am a huge fan of the series , and was highly disappointed with the twilight movie. I hope that the new director will stick a little closer to the book. I do understand that when producing a movie some changes must be made but i think twilight was a little drastic on the changes.

Anonymous said...

I personally hated the movie. I have read the entire series about 8times now and the 1st director I believe skimmed the book never read it. She couldn't get even the smallest of details right (Alice has Black hair not brown Edward wears a leather jacket not tweed...) let alone the big details. She kept the unimportant junk but cut out the scenes that really portray the love and bond that Edward and Bella have. I have to say it was the worst movie. If I had gone to the movie before reading the books I would never understand peoples devotion to the series. I really hope under a new director Bella can be more Bellaish not so blah. Also stick to the story it is what people want to see not some movie inspired by a book we want to see the movie of the book.

I'm looking forward to the change in directors. After seeing Twilight, being thoroughly disappointed and then analyzing why for a few days, I decided it was a director problem. I thought Hardwicke did a very mediocre job and I have much higher hopes for Weitz.

I do wish they would've changed the actor for Jacob Black. I thought Lautner was a goober in a very bad wig. But, hopefully Weitz will be able to "direct" him better than Hardwicke did. High hopes!

I found Hardwicke a so so director. Im glad they changed. Not sure if it was her fault Twilight was choppy or the editing group. Don't get me wrong, i loved Twilight, seeing the characters coming to life. The movie needed better scene outcome. You could tell which scenes she spent time on or were her favorites.

Let me just say that i felt the movie "Twilight" was crap. I was really looking forward to seeing it, and felt let down, and almost embarrassed that I was so excited about it. The theme in the book that Bella felt that she was not worthy of Edward was missing. The meadow scene looked like something from a 70's B movie, Bella was surley, and as much as I like RP, he played the some of scenes totally off. When he is demonstrating his strength, speed, etc. in the meadow, he's not supposed to be screaming at Bella. I know that in a movie, some things have to be changed for continuity and time and all that, but why did they have to add whole scenes that were not in the book? In New Moon, they need to show Bella and Edward watching R&J, because that's when he talks about suicide. They need to show the party scene because that's one of the pivotal scenes in the movie. And please, please, please, do justice to the scene where Bella is running through town to get to Edward!

Anonymous said...

I think haveing a new director is a really good step. I think the reason that the movie was enjoyed so much WAS the fact that it was apdapted from such an amazing book and that the cast ws awesome. But Hardwicke never established the connection between Edward and Bella that literally jumped off the pages and wacked you in the face, she just made it all happen far too quickly.
I really hope that Weitz takes care of new moon, and brings to life a lot more of Stephanies absolutly amazing work!

Well honestly, i feel bad for Catherine Hardwicke, but if it was the right thing to do then it's for the best for the movie and the fans. On the other hand, Chris Weitz better make this a "fantastic" film that will make the Twilight fans love just as much as they loved the first film or more. Well that's all i have to say. ;)

Anonymous said...

I am a great fan of the Twilight novels and i was a tad disspointed by the movie. I felt it did not explain the story as well as it could have. I felt that it did not convey all of the emotion between edward and bella. i hope that the next movie explains the story in a more detailed fashion insetead of showing random clips of poeple laying in a feild of daisies.

I think Catherine was a horrible director. The movie was terrible. It completley ruined the book, and Im glad she's not directing New Moon. I mean seriously! She added scenes, deleted some, re arranged others. To be honest, I cryed after I saw the movie because IT WAS HORRIBLE. Im sure some fans liked it because well, they love everything about Twilight. But let's get real here. The movie was only a "big success" because people wanted to see the book, in picture. But Im sure more thanhalf the fans who went to see it were dissapointed.
Im extremeley dissapointed with her work.
Let's hope Chris can fix it.

i think that if chris produces the movie like the book it will be awesome. Dont get me wrong i love the movie twilight but i love the books way more,Catherine left out alot of the good parts in the book and changed alot of it as well but it was still a success. I just feel that if the movie is exactly like the book you would get alot more fans! It is a love story and people want to see everything they see when they read thebook come to life! That is what makes a GREAT MOVIE

Anonymous said...

I would like to state one thing i am hoping the new director chris will have the guts to change the actor of jacob, jacob becomes a man of 25 to 27 and taylor just can't come to that,he would be of the age of seth is in the book, hoping when he does go through the changers a new actor is introduced,no matter what the 13 teen year old girls think as that is the story. No matter how buffed taylor becomes he still looks like the boy from shark boy and larva girl, and that is all taylor is is a boy.

I love this movie, I don't care who's directing it. As long as they do their best I'll watch it
I love Edward Cullen <3

I hope the New Moon movie follows the book more. Twilight did not show the relationship between Edward & Bella. They cut out parts of the book that would have been good to see on screen i.e. blood typing, 1st experiencing running with Edward. There were too many made up scenes i.e. the field trip, mill attack, her father's friend being killed, climbing trees. She could have left these made up things out and put in scenes from the book which is why people went to see it. The van crash was not well done either. I am looking forward to how Chris Weitz handles New Moon and hope that he follows the book better. They were able to do Harry Potter movies without noticeable changes so they should be able to do the same for the Twilight movies. I wouldn't mind seeing the first one redone (maybe with a better budget if that was an issue).

Anonymous said...

I seen the movie before I read the books. I thought it was good, although I felt that the vampires could have appeared to be more fearful. After reading the books, I was disappointed. There were many things that should have been in the movie and were not. Perhaps the budget I don't know why but, I hope New Moon reflects the book that was meant to be. Edward played little yet, he did play alot in Bellas mind. Good Luck to all the cast in the New Moon. I look forward to seeing it.

NotUpForChange said...

If you change the way New Moon is from the book drastically for the movie the way summit originally wanted to do for Twilight before Catherine took a stand. Then I WILL NOT waste the money on a movie ticket. If he doesn't understand the books and is only in it because he has "fantasy" experience, then summit needs to reconsider their hiring qualifications. I personally did not enjoy the Golden Compass in the least, and New Moon is nothing even close to that. All I have left to say is the Director position should have been left to Catherine, and Chris better not let me or the millions of other fans down.

i think that Hardwicke didn't do a very good job on twilight, edward and bella were kind of awkward throughout the movie, the actors were perfect though. i think that the story could have been portrayed alot better, the settings in the book, for that scene, were completely different to the movie and i think it would have been better if she had stuck more to the plot line in the book. i also think that she needed more experience with special effects and she missed some of the core parts of the book, like the meadow scene, it should have been way longer and more pronounced than what it was. the music was brilliant though and i really liked the baseball scene.

I agree with my friend who commented above. Everyone bashes on Catherine like she did a horrible job. If she did such a bad job then why on Earth were there so many people Raving about the movie? Why did so many people return to the theatres to watch it again. with the price of movie tickets and the economy being in such bad shape, i'm sure people didn't spend their money over and over again just to go see robert pattinson's handsome face. It was to watch the movie, in which many people loved. i'm very sorry but if someone wants to complain that there were details left out that were in the book but not in the movie, well then you haven't read the harry potter books and then saw the films. nor have u taken any interest in reading any other book that was made into a movie. it's amusing to me how people don't step back and think: "hrm.. if i were the director of this movie, i would love to put every last detail from the book into the movie itself. however, if i were to do that, the movie would be close to 5 hours (or more) long"
and i'm sorry but, don't u think the director should be able to add her own sense of creativity to the movie? I certainly do.
the words are "based on" the book Twilight. they never said "hey Twilight fans! if you want to see exactly what the book would look like on film, here it is."
did you ever read a book and say to yourself "this part is kind of boring me"
well it's moments like that, that need to be cut from the movie. or even if some good parts from the book were missing from the movie, Catherine needed to get the major parts of the story accross.
funny how i watched the movie first and it encouraged me to read the books. i loved the movie before deciding to read the books. and even after reading them, i love the movie.
if you think you could do i better job, i'd love to see it happen!
this new director better hope this movie is good. there will be a lot of Twilight fans disappointed if it isn't, and the future of the Twilight saga on film could be at risk if he screws it up too too bad.

Hardwicke did get some good shots but sadly she made too many mistakes that distracted people she didn't edit very well. I haven't been able to watch the Golden Compass but from what I have heard it was good. I have faith that this movie will be good.
So Chris Weitz "break a leg"

I loved Twilight but I watched it before I read the book. Now that I read all 4 books I can see that the first movie really was lacking. If they had added another 30 mins or so to the movie and stuck to the original dialog it would have been awesome! The romance was too short and the communication between Bella and Edward should have been more like the book. I hope the new director is better at capturing these characters. I wanted to see the blood typing scene, the scene where she sits with Edward for lunch and a longer sequence at the hospital. So much was left out. I could have done a better job on that movie.

I totally agree with the anonymous person that posted on January 4. The director did NOT do very well. It seemed more like Bella and Edward were losing brain cells rather than falling in love. I was very glad to hear the change in directors.

watching the movie the many time i did i thought it was alright. it kept me watching it. yes there was alot that was in book but not in movie, i think why they did not wanted to try and put all the part of the book in the movie was that it would have ended like lord of the rings the return of the king, very long and many endings that would make people bored, i think why catherine did as she did was she took the main points and added some new part to keep the movie going in a perfect line. well i am not happy that chris weitz took the director's spot, his movie the golden compass was at the most high the worest of all movies. why i say this because his movie was deceiving he put what was good evil and evil good yes i am Christian that love romance movies but when a man make a movie and hides what he is really saying then he should not have been in the film making. so to end this I BETTER NOT SEE NEW MOON LIKE THE GOLDEN COMPASS STAY WITH THE BOOKS THAT WHAT THEY ARE FOR, TO COPY!!!

Well, I have to say. I am really happy about the change in directors. I was really disappointed with the movie Twilight and thought Catherine Hardwicke did a crappy job with it. I have not watched the Golden Compass, but I'm not worried at all. I understand that some people are worried he'll turn New Moon into one of those Hollywood movies full of special effects and leave out all the thick emotion that is in the book. I dont think that'll be the case at all, after all, he did write AND direct About a Boy, which means he does have experience in bringing real emotion to the screen too, not only special effects. About a Boy is a great movie and definitely one of my favorites. And based on a book too. So, yeah, I am putting a lot of faith in Chris Weitz.

Hardwicke did an amazing job with twilight, I lisened to the commentary and she definitly gave me the impression she knew which were the important factors in which made the Twilight movie such a succsess, They definilty should have kept her on, and maybe they both could have directed the movie. I hope New Moon is just as good as Twilight ill be extremely disapointed if it is not.

Well i don't know what happened with the first movie. It just sucked completely. I was extremely disappointed and i am a HUGE twilight fan. I think they could have found a much better looking actor to play Edward, he is supposed to be this magnificent god-like creature and, lets face it, Robert Pattinson is not THAT good looking. The movie also seemed low-budet and the overall acting was bad. Maybe it wasnt Hardwicke, atleast it wasnt JUST her. But hopefully with all the money Twilight raked in, they can afford to do a better job with new moon. All i know is that it can't get any worse than Twilight.

The twilight books were wicked. though i was extremely dissapointed in how they made the movie, and the casting was terrible.. Bella can't act, jacob is too scrawny, and roselie was badly done as well.. they left too much out of the first book..
the change in director is badly needed, im sure he will do it way more justice than the first.

The only reason was even able to sit through the entire movie was because I loved the book, the STORY so much. It had also been a while since I had read the book so I didn't have all the details (which were skipped in the movie) in the forefront of my mind. I think Catherine whatever is pretty batty and doesn't seem like she has a commitment to the actual telling of the story. I mean she can say how much she LOVES the story all she wants but that doesn't mean she is going to do a good job directing it...maybe someone more detached will have an easier time translating this and letting the actors do their jobs. I thought bella was pretty awful but I could see that she could be really awesome...as long as she doesnt randomly shake a ketchup bottle for 30 second without anything coming out and then just put it back down...she seemed in a bit of a daze the whole movie...of course edward is super hot and oh so sexy but i think robert pattinson doesnt quite give him the sense of humor he has in the book...not yet anyways...maybe that will come through...anyways I'll stop rambling but I really hope new moon is 3 hours long and AWESOME.

In my opinion the twilight book was alot better than the movie. Don't get be wrong thew movie was great, but it was pretty bad compared to the book. The actors could have acted better, and the movie didn't show that much love between edward and bella. In the book they kissed about 5 times in the movie it was only like 2. And i agree they should have included chapter 5 Blood Type. Bella also founded out he was a vampire inside his car after dinner in port angeles, in the book se found out in the woods. Anyway i hope chris weitz makes new moon alot like the book!

I am a Twilight fan big time. Watched the movie 33 times, read all 4 books 3 times and listened to the audio books twice. I think I need counciling, so my hubby tells me. Hardwicke did a good job and that is proven by the success of the movie. But, I have watched all the extras on the 2 dvds and she drove me nuts. I felt like she wanted to be one of the stars. It is so bad that I fast forward all the bits she is on. We definatly need specail effects in New Moon and the new director will do a great job. I am hanging out for the movie to be released down under.

I think that the movie did not do the books any justice. For the average person not read the book the movie was overdramatized and did not reflect the book accurately. I was very much disappointed when I watched the movie. I hope the New Moon reflects the story and characters better, I have faith in the decision to change directors for the New Moon.

Hardwicke did eh, not so good. In my opinion she screwed up a couple of scenes but in others they were okay. I was happy that she wasn't doing the next one, only because I thought that the first one was lacking something,The action was barely there and the love was eh there, but I don't know if it was really believeable.Seemed fantasy-like,
I still liked Twilight, only because it was the first movie and, yeah I love the saga. I think that Chris will do a great job, the preview had me excited already. Good luck to New Moon and future films :).

I never was really into this kind of film. i always believe vimps should bring the horror--not love. What Hardwicke bought to that world was the feel of the book and the passion to the film. I know this Chris Weitz guy is said to be good, but I as fan will not believe as much, for I have started this story with Cathrine and was looking forward to her part in New Moon. I will always support anything Twilight related, but I will compare the two.
*What would Cathrine would have done?
All in all I do wish Chris success on New Moon and will be expecting alot for him on 11/20/2009.

I am so glad that Chris Weitz is directing New Moon! I don't believe that Catherine Hardwicke did the best job possible for Twilight. New Moon is going to be a phenominal movie.

I am looking at this as a positive thing. I felt Twilight could have been alot better if not for Hardwickes lacking in the true feeling of the book. I didnt see the true falling in hard love like the magic of the book held. I know that the New Moon will have to be a better tribute to the series

In my opinion, I think Hardwicke did an ok job with twilight.I'm not really with the director change for many reasons. Weitz did not do a very good job with the Golden Compass. I thought the film was a load of rubbish and although Hardwicke had no experience, she did a good job. Its always someone's first time.

Therefore, I think Weitz needs all the luck he can get!

I think this movie will be better with Chris because I found the last movie not as serious as the book. The music used in most scenes made everything really cheesy. Overall , I was not impressed and I've read the series about 3 times now. I hope this movie will be a bit more serious, thrilling, and that it will stick to the story line of the book!

I am a big fan of all the Twilight books, and saw Twilight before I read the books,I liked the movie before I read the books and after I read them I was very MAD with her that she left SO many parts out and completely left out how much love they had for each other. I was every upset with what she had done. But I think that Weitz will do a great job not just with the script but with the directing.

I do not think that Hardwicke did a great job on Twilight. When I went to see the movie with my husband, I was so disappointed that so much was changed from the book. Just about every scene had me throwing my hands up in the air like, "What are they doing?!" I really wished that I would have watched the movie and then read the book because it was that much different. But, I also may not have read the book if I had based my opinion strictly on what I saw in the movie.

Twilight is based on a book and when a script/movie is created based on that book, people need to be careful. Books are notoriously better than movies and are the reason people go to see the movie. They want to make a connection with the people and put a face to the vision they had of that person. I am excited for New Moon because I know it will be a different director. If I knew the same director was at the helm again, I would probably have waited until the DVD came out or On-Demand.

I like Chris Weitz and thought the Golden Compass was a great movie and done very well. I look forward very much to seeing this movie with him directing it. This movie should have a lot of special effects in it and needs someone who is very experienced. Please make this a better movie than the first one! I may never watch another Twilight Saga movie aain if this one lets me down like the first one and I know many people who feel the same.

I'm happy Hardwicke was replaced. I thought Twilight lacked the emotion, intensity, and energy the book portrayed. I think Stewart and Pattison are pretty good actors, but there were a couple of scenes where the acting was simply bad and the chemistry was lacking. Either Hardwicke couldn't fix the mediocrity of the scenes or she didn't think they were mediocre. Either way, there that is a huge problem.

I'm so glad they got rid of Catherine Hardwicke. She did not have the Twilight vision. Important parts were completely cut out or worked in a different way. I mean the big question: Why the hell would they cut out the meadow scene? She even says in the commentation on the dvd about having to cut out scenes. So they have an extended version of the meadow because "we all love the meadow." Yeah... That is the pivotal point of the books. She could have cut out a stupid scene at the diner or didn't have to show the scene with the vampires attacking Waylon. Oh... that's more imporatant then the meadow? The movie was ok...
From what I've seen from pictures New Moon looks more accurate. We shall see.

She did not capture anything correctly. She didn't capture the love between Edward and Bella. Bella never blushed... they never showed her talking in her sleep. they cut out the meadow scene.

Bella and Edward seemed liked buddies.

Also.. who was in charge of makeup and clothes...god.

I do not agree with the director change, I didnt know about until I read the artical. When I heard they were changing the next movies from not following the book I was really upset. If they are going to make a moive from a book they should stick to the Same story, or not do a movie at all. If that is really the reason why the replaced Catherine, then she is the better director! Get his guy outta there--who does he think he is chaning up the story, when half the movie goer do not read the books they just think they can watch the book instead. But now they wont even know what is really in the book.
Bring Catherine Back!

Everybody needs to cut Chris Weitz a break. I think he will do tons better with New Moon then Hardwicke. She didn't even stick to the story lines in the book. I can honestly say that if I have never read the book I would have been totally lost with the Twilight movie. She cut out the main part about how James had something to do with Alice. If you have read the book then you will know what im talking about. There was alot of important parts in the book that Hardwicke had left out and she put in parts that didn't really need to be in the movies. There was no connection with any of the characters. At the diner Bella didn't even reach for Edwards hand as it is read in the book. I mean come on!! New Moon will be better with the director change. Can't wait to see it!!

i think it'll be for the best when push comes to shove. i crave special effects . when i rent a movie i don't look at the description first, i look at the pictures of the FX's on the movies. and if there not up to par than i usually don't rent that said movie.
